Itty Bitties

After completing 3 quilts (Hexie Hearts, Owl Applique and Elephant Parade), in a matter of a few weeks, I realized how quickly all those "small projects" pile up.  Wow, is my list long!!  I was also out of town all of last weekend until late Tuesday night, so limited sewing time this week.  I did, however, manage to complete a few small things.

This is a crib skirt for my sister's nursery.  It matches the window valances I already made for her.  It's for a baby boy's room and I don't have a crib in my house anymore... so you'll need to use your imagination and pretend this isn't on a pink bed.

This is a mermaid tail tu-tu.  And it's for me.  Crazy much, Kat???
I'll be away again this weekend... this time at Disney World... where I'll be running my very first half marathon!  It's the Disney Princess Half, so costumes are encouraged.  I opted for Ariel.  Well, as much as possible while running 13.1 miles.

Here are two small items I made with my new toy.  I'm not sure what they'll end up as, but they were fun to make!

Note to self: Ironing this embroidery will cause terrible puckers.  *sigh*

  1. I love the puckers on the mustache- they look like wrinkles on a lovable old face!

  2. Beautiful, each one, Have you tried ironing with a fat towel under the iron, or iron from the back with, again, something between. Those embroideries are so lovely, I can see this might well be a "money earner" while you will be enjoying it so much at the same time. Yes, I agree with Bobbie, wrinkles, in just the right place too... and that could be the start of something entirely new!!! " Ariel", run like the wind. Best wishes for a safe, enjoyable, fast run. Greetings from Jean.

  5. Ha! Love the Ariel Costume and Pleeeez be sure we get to see a photo of it "in action"! Love the crib skirt....what a great idea since nowadays, "they" are discouraging bumper guards because of safety issues..........have you tried using the thin iron=on stabilizer on top? That seemed to work for me on those problem fabrics.......

  6. You're going to have a lot of fun with your embroidery machine. The puckers are probably from not enough stabilizer. Try using a heavier stabilizer or two pieces of what you used and see if that takes away the puckers. I've found that Floriani iron-on stabilizer works best for quilting cottons. Check out www.emblibrary.com for lots of free tips on stabilizing, projects, and great embroidery designs.
