My Tools

My husband bought me a refurbished Singer 9134 for my 24th birthday (please don't ask how long ago that was!) and I still consider it one of the bests gifts I have ever received. It probably does a lot of things that I don’t even know about, since I tend to use “straight stitch” and “zigzag stitch” and not much else. Maybe one day I’ll venture into another stitch. Maybe.

I also have a beautiful Singer 15-91 in a gorgeous cabinet, which I purchased and had serviced about 3 years ago. I have never used it, but it makes a beautiful little side table in my dining room (aka, my sewing room).

I do not have a long arm, so all the quilting I do is done with my Singer 9134. This limits my options (in terms of quilting stitch patterns and quilt size), though I have quilted one California King with that machine. (I will never do that again!) I usually stitch in the ditch or in other straight-line patterns, because anything else is difficult with a standard machine. Some day, when space (and of course, money) is no issue, I will treat myself to a long arm.

Any product or brand name I mention here is only because I have used it myself and it worked for me. I am not endorsing any company or any product… just sharing what I’ve tried that I like. I buy (almost) everything on sale and try to be practical in my choices. If I don’t have a coupon, it’s probably not coming home with me.

I also try to give credit where credit is due. I will mention (and link to) any patterns or artists as much as possible, but a lot of what I make are my own creations, with patterns I have created myself after extensive Googling or pattern analysis. If you see something that looks familiar but no credit is given, please let me know and I’ll do my best to rectify that. I encourage you to share or use my ideas, as well, but would ask that if you do copy them, you link back to this blog. Sharing the credit and the love, ya know? :-)

My “sewing room” is actually my dining room. (Ask my kids to put something on the dining room table and I get blank looks… ask them to put it in my sewing room and they know right where to go.) My sewing machine moves off the table twice a year (for Easter dinner and Christmas dinner) and the other 363 days of the year, my dining room gets more use and more love than most dining rooms I know, so it’s all good. I’m all about practical. Usually.

  1. Just reading your blog. Have you ever heard of the Quilt as you go method of quilting? I just did one ,twin size, for my granddaughter and it didnt turn out half bad. I want to do a larger one using that method. Right now I am quilting a queen size quilt on my Viking#1+
